The dreaded won't wake up from hibernation fix
Posted by wmshuman   •   Sunday, 2009-September-13
Are you having trouble getting your Studio 17 notebook to wake up from hibernation, or even just turn back on after closing the lid? Well I was too, until I updated the bios from A05 to A07. It seemed to fix the fix the problem... at least for me. Check out Dell's driver support website and download yourself the newest and recommended bios upgrade.

I read online that a lot of Studio 17 notebooks were having this problem using an outdated, but still somewhat useful bios. Simply insert your service tag number, then choose Bios from the list. If you are unsure what version of bios you are using, open the command prompt as admin and type 'msinfo32' without the quotes. You should be able to use that popup to tell what bios you are using. Be careful not to interrupt the flashing of the bios or you could "brick" your system. As long as you follow the instructions, you will be fine.

One other problem could be that you have your phone, or other accessory plugged in USB when it goes to sleep. You might have to unplug it before it wakes up. Hopefully 'they' will get that fixed real soon.

Need your images professionally traced?
Posted by wmshuman   •   Sunday, 2008-February-03
Looking for a company that can trace your image for FREE? Look no further than Vector Magic. This website brought to you by the geniuses at Stanford University, is a designer's missing link when it comes to creating a flawless vector image of your file.

What is vectorization you ask? Vectorization (aka tracing) is the process of converting a raster image to a vector image. Raster images are pixel-based (photo images), whereas vector images are represented by geometric shapes such as lines, circles and curves (can be any size without distortion).

How can this program help me? If your not in a design field, basically it can't. But, for the hundreds of thousands that are, you can use this little proggie to redraw images into vector line drawings with the touch of a button.

I personally tested this online drawing tool and I must say I am very impressed. I have used Corel Trace, Adobe Streamline, and other vector drawing programs, but I have never seen anything online be so accurate. Let's not forget the best part...It's Free! Here is another link to the Vector Tracing Program Vector Magic.
Stock Photography for cheap

Stock Photography can be a little pricey, especially if you purchase your stock images from the Corbis company. If you have hundreds or even thousands of dollars for your stock photography, by all means, go ahead a purchase from major stock photography websites like Corbis. But, if you are like me and don't have that kind of cash laying around, check out the website Dreamstime. Their stock photography images start at only $1.00 each. Who can beat that? Purchase the ultra-high resolution royalty-free stock images for only $3.00. Check em out!
